The first day’s picture is a moment of “Ginza 4th district crosswalk” because Tokyo citizens think that place is “central” of Tokyo. One of the reason is the most expensive land price in Japan.
This 1 picture really represents “TOKYO’s now” in October 2016.
Ginza clock tower (since 1894)- Certified as a Heritage of Industrial Modernization in Japan. The building was settled with “Neo Renaissance” style in 19th century by SEIKO (clock) company. It still runs their traditional speciality store named “Wako” which is regarded as the most prestigious (expensive..) Japanese store with Japanese royal warrant. The next building sign shows innovative technology, SEIKO Astron. “SEIKO Astron” is the world’s first GPS solar watch.
A construction crane behind the Wako building is for renovation of MIKIMOTO (high quality pearl jewelry), they are rebuilding the headquarter store for targeting visitors of TOKYO olympics. (It closed in January 2015). New building will open 2.5 times wider spaces in March 2017.
Yellow bus is “Hato Bus”. Hato (pigeon in Japanese) bus is Tokyo sightseeing bus company found in 1948.
Homing pigeon is symbol of peace and safe and the birds make round trip, out and back safely. So they hoped safe sightseeing tours and named their bus “Hato” (pigeon). They set the color yellow because every visitors can easily find the bus in crowded metropolis Tokyo.
A mirrored building is police box, “Ginza 4-chome (=district) Koban (=police box)”, where many foreign visitors go to ask. All mirrored design was developed as a Tokyo cultural design projects. Actually, this 4-chome Koban is located not at 4-chome but at 5-chome.
In the mirror, you see white mesh design building…. that is the newest Ginza monument “Ginza plaza” opened on 24th September.
Tradition, history, modernism, publicness, politeness and innovation… this scene might be a little piece of blended Tokyo stories.
Hope you look forward our next article tomorrow.
